Dermaplaning facial

LETS TALK Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning has enjoyed significant media mileage in recent years, and for good reason.

This facial exfoliation treatment is quick, non-invasive, and minimises the appearance of fine lines.

What’s not to love… right?

As we age, our skin’s natural regeneration process slows down and weakens. As a result, we not only look older than we are, but also feel less confident, especially when it comes to showing off our skin! Could your skin be returned to its youthful state? Fret not! Dermaplaning treatment is a simple way to rejuvenate your skin! This is probably the safest and most affordable cosmetic procedure available for enhancing one’s appearance without breaking the bank.

Because of how soft their skin feels after dermaplaning, many people report that it feels like they’re getting microdermabrasion done, only without the high price. It’s also great to do before any kind of facial for picture-perfect results!

Let us explain a bit more, and by the time you are finished reading this post, you will know what dermaplaning is and 10 ways it can help improve your skin, plus some myths debunked.

Let’s talk about the benefits of dermaplaning then!

But first –

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

The procedure of dermaplaning is an exfoliation process on the skin, and uses a surgical steel scalpel (dermaplaning tool) to lightly scrape the surface of the skin as the technician holds it tight and close. To remove hair and skin cells, the tool is held at a 45 degree angle and brushed along the skin.

Don’t worry; it is not as scary as it sounds.

According to fans of this facial treatment, it revitalises the skin by getting rid of dead skin cells and small facial hairs, generally called “peach fuzz”, “fine hairs” or others say “fuzzy hairs”.

This can be considered an alternative for people who are simply unable to afford laser skin treatments, and those who want improved results after using an at-home exfoliation kit.

After you undergo the procedure, you will find your face smoother, and since dead skin cells and peach fuzz will have been removed, leaving your skin looking fresh with fewer fine lines.

But if you’re on the fence about this facial procedure and would like to learn more, here are 10 benefits that might convince you:

10 BENEFITS OF DERMA-PLANING

1. IMMEDIATE RESULTS

According to online medical journals  the reduction of facial hair and dead skin cells makes patients’ faces visibly brighter even after the first treatment. Why? Because the top layer of our skin is exposed to harsh toxins and irritants every day. This is especially true if you travel by public transport, or if your work exposes you to the sun. When your dermatologist sloughs off your damaged skin, it reveals a fresher, more youthful layer underneath.

2. LOW-RISK

Skin dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, but most especially dry skin. You might experience some redness in your face, but that will be gone in a day or two afterwards. Dermaplaning is considered the perfect exfoliation procedure, because it generally doesn’t cause any side effects.

 3. QUICK PROCEDURE

Dermaplanation is also a quick skin treatment, taking only 30 to 45 minutes, and is non-invasive. There is no prep time or recovery time from having dermaplanation, which means you can fit it into your schedule without compromising other commitments. Dermaplaning is usually performed every three to four weeks.

You may experience temporary shedding (called “exfoliation”) for up to 7 days after this procedure, but for most people this only lasts a few days.

4. REDUCE FINE LINES AND EXPOSES YOUNGER SKIN

Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation that removes dead skin. Additionally, it exposes younger, brighter skin, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles naturally. In our later years, there is a natural cell turnover that does not occur, as our body is busy with other functions like growth, reproduction, and so forth. Therefore, removing dead cells is necessary to expose new ones to do their jobs properly. As a result, your face will also have a smoother texture, because you will get rid of peach fuzz or vellus hairs that can be prickly.

5. PROMOTES COLLAGEN PRODUCTION

The production of collagen slows down with age as we grow older. In addition to exposing younger skin, dermaplaning stimulates collagen production by exposing them to oxygen, which also results in a smoother texture on your face by getting rid of peach fuzz, which can be irritating to the skin.

6. MAKEUP LOOKS BETTER

Exfoliation helps your skincare products penetrate the skin and improve their results. So the days immediately following a dermaplaning treatment are the best time for your makeup.

Whether it’s vitamin C serums or hyaluronic acid-based products, dermaplaning will enhance their penetration, because these types of products are lightweight enough to reach the bottom layers of your epidermis, but they’re not able to go much deeper than that without assistance. Dermaplaning removes dead skin cells from your face, it is smoother and much readily absorbs the makeup pigments. The foundation and powder will appear smooth on your skin, because you won’t have small lines or hairs making creases in it. Overall, a dermaplaning session boosts your confidence while maximising your makeup.

 7. TRIGGERS REGENERATION

Another benefit of dermaplaning is helping your facial cells regrow, allowing serums and moisturisers to seep into the skin. The procedure helps patients with dry and uneven skin tones, because the procedure gets rid of the cracked epidermis. This type of exfoliation can even take away some types of acne scars. What’s more, because your skin pores are unclogged, your skin can become less prone to acne breakouts. Before a treatment, the skin should undergo its normal rejuvenation cycle, which is thirty days.

 8. PREVENTS BREAKOUTS

During exfoliation, your natural oil, known as sebum, is spread out, preventing it from accumulating in one area, and eliminating dead skin cells. This prevents breakouts, as the chances of clogged pores decrease when dead skin cells are eliminated. Exfoliating also promotes cell turnover, so you get healthier, glowing skin over time!

9. GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

If you’re the type whose face gets irritated from one session of dermabrasion, you might be better suited for dermaplaning. Although it uses a scalpel to scrape skin cells, it is painless.

Dermaplaning treatment is also an excellent option for people with sensitive skin. If you are pregnant, dermaplaning exfoliation is also a good option, because this procedure does not introduce chemicals in your skin.

10. SUITS ALL SKIN TYPES

Dermaplaning can be performed on all skin types. However, if you have an allergy to aspirin, you must say first before the procedure, because sterile blades might not be safe for those allergic to salicylic acid (found in Aspirin). Nevertheless, there are at-home methods that you can use without consulting an aesthetician. Though it is typically recommended to only be done by professionals

FYI – Dermaplaning for men’s skin should be considered a cosmetic dermatology procedure, not a hair removal procedure. This is especially true for men whose facial hair is particularly coarse. The reduction of ingrown hairs in the beard area is another skincare benefit of dermaplaning for men.

DERMAPLANING SIDE EFFECTS?      DEBUNKING COMMON MYTHS 🙈

pastedGraphic_1.png

We can’t completely give you the good and leave out the bad, can we?

Unfortunately, dermaplaning is often misperceived, making it seem cheaper and less effective compared to more expensive facial treatments, which is not true.

To ease your mind, we have addressed the common myths and cleared up any confusion. 🧐

PEACH FUZZ ON YOUR FACE WILL GROW BACK DARKER AND THICKER 😃 (WRONG)

It is probably the most common concern related to hair removal and shaving, that hair grows back darker and thicker.

By simply shaving the hair from different parts of the body, many believe the hair will grow back thicker and darker.

Shaving does not cause hair to grow back thicker.

As a result, the hair shaved has a dull tip. If the hair has been shaved, the dull edge can appear thicker than the pointed tip, but it is not necessarily larger.

In the same way as shaving, dermaplaning removes very fine hair called vellus hair. The fine hair on the face is so thin and soft that removing it won’t make a noticeable difference in the thickness of the hair.

The skin will look and feel smoother and radiant once the peach fuzz is removed.

IT HURTS! 😂 (NO IT DOESNT)

Most people do not feel any pain with dermaplaning.Like shaving, the procedure is painless, but some irritation may occur afterwards.Dermaplaning, on the other hand, feels more like a gentle sweeping motion compared to other methods of hair removal, such as laser, threading, and waxing.

ACNE AND BREAKOUTS ARE CAUSED 🤔 (NOPE)

Dermaplaning is an effective defensive measure in reducing the risk of acne breakouts.

Removing the desk skin prevents dirt and debris from getting trapped in the pores and follicles of the skin.

Dermaplaning should not, however, be used as a treatment for active acne. The procedure should not be performed on acne-prone skin.

CAN’T BE PERFORMED ON DARK SKIN TONES 😣 (YES IT CAN)

Dermaplaning is completely safe for all skin tones and shades.

This is an effective exfoliation method for darker skin, since it immediately removes the dark hairs that make the skin look dull.

Dermaplaning is considered a manual exfoliation, just like using a face scrub. Unlike facial scrubs, it does not cause microabrasions on the skin.

IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT 🕒 (NOT AT ALL)

Although booking an appointment and travelling an aesthetician can take time, the actual dermaplaning procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes.

And given that the effects of one treatment typically last anywhere between 3-4 weeks, perhaps a small price to pay for a permanently glowing face.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Although there are many benefits to dermaplaning, there are also some things to watch out for. Dermatologists do not recommend this procedure for patients with cystic acne, those with excessively oily skin, or people with hirsutism or excessive facial hair growth.

Results also vary depending on how your skin reacts to exfoliation. The procedure makes skin look and feel smoother, and will reduce the appearance of acne scars.  By stimulating the production of new skin cells, this treatment helps your skin look and feel younger. What worked for your friend may not necessarily yield the same results for you.
